Princess Ines' Christening

Princess Ines was christened to the tunes of Disney and her mother Sofia's wedding speech. Her older brothers Alexander, Gabriel, and Julian also participated in the ceremony.

– Woohoo!, said Bishop Johan Dalman.

Princess Ines Marie Lilian Silvia was christened at Drottningholm Palace Chapel on Friday, June 13, exactly ten years after her parents, Princess Sofia and Prince Carl Philip, got married.

The christening began with the music "Till My Last Breath," a song by Molly Sandén and Danny Saucedo written for Princess Sofia's wedding speech to Prince Carl Philip.

The sun shone over Drottningholm as the more than 80 guests arrived at the church on Friday morning, led by godmother and cousin Princess Estelle, 13.

Among the guests were the royal family and their closest relatives, including Princess Birgitta's daughter Princess Désirée, who traveled from Germany.

Several members of the royal family faced physical challenges – Queen Silvia is still recovering from a spring foot operation, and her nephew Patrick Sommerlath and Princess Christina attended on crutches.

Among the couple's friends were godfather Fredrik von der Esch and his wife, actress Cecilia von der Esch, celebrity hairdresser Marwan "Marre" Hitti, Prince Carl Philip's design partner Oscar Kylberg, and Princess Sofia's childhood friend Cajsa Larsson, whose daughter Tiara was also a godparent.

Disney, Hymns, and Wedding Songs

As with the family's previous christenings, the couple made thoughtful and meaningful music choices both inside and outside the hymnbook.

In addition to Princess Sofia's wedding speech song, Georg Riedel's "Free as a Bird" was performed by a children's choir, and "On My Way" from Disney's Brother Bear.

Additionally, the hymn "The Star Sends Out Its Light" by Åsa Hagberg and Agneta Sköld was premiered.

The Princess and the Princes

The day's main character wore the royal family's 120-year-old christening gown, with a yellow ribbon matching Princess Sofia's dress.

Princess Ines spent the ceremony in her mother Princess Sofia's arms, but when patience began to wane, eldest brother Prince Alexander stepped in with a comforting hand on Ines' cheek.

He also played an important role during the christening, as he, along with middle brothers Prince Gabriel and Prince Julian, had the honor of filling the baptismal font with water that the royal family always brings home from Solliden Palace on Öland for christenings.

The Bishop's Triumph

But it was Princess Ines who stole the show and everyone's hearts. Bishop Johan Dalman, who led the christening along with court preacher Michael Bjerkhagen, couldn't resist cooing with the little Duchess of Västerbotten during the ceremony.

The family was clearly at the center when he repeatedly addressed Princess Ines and her brothers directly, concluding the christening ceremony by holding up Princess Ines to the congregation with a triumphant:

– Woohoo!
