Woman Sentenced to 10 Years for Attempted Murder After Knife Attack on Ex
A woman disguised herself and threw knives at her ex-partner.
In March 2024, a man and his partner were awakened by knives being thrown into their apartment in central Vänersborg. One knife struck the man in the chest.
The suspect was arrested on May 8 and detained in Vänersborg. The 35-year-old woman had previously been in a relationship with the attacked man. She was charged with attempted murder, among other offenses.
– "She is not to be trifled with," the man said about his ex-girlfriend.
The Vänersborg District Court found the woman guilty of attempted murder and sentenced her to 10 years in prison for the attempted murder and several other crimes.
No Mental Disorder
The woman had repeated contacts with adult psychiatry and had been involuntarily committed at times. Days after the alleged attempted murder, she was treated for a week in a psychiatric ward.
It was revealed that she had also discussed her plans with a doctor during a scheduled medical appointment days before the attack.
The woman also confessed the attempted murder to a police officer she knew.
In hearings, the woman admitted visiting her ex-boyfriend's home to see if he still lived there, but denied throwing the knives.
A forensic psychiatric evaluation showed that the woman did not suffer from a severe mental disorder.
– "I have requested that she be sentenced according to the primary charge on all counts and that the sentence should not be less than 10 years in prison," said prosecutor Malin Nykvist during the trial.
