Two men died in a severe parachuting accident in Strömstad on Saturday. The men collided mid-air during a jump from 4,000 meters.

According to Anna Oscarson, communications manager at the Swedish Parachute Association, a parachute group was practicing a so-called "free jump" from a plane at 4,000 meters.

After about a minute in free fall, two of the parachutists collided with each other before they could deploy their parachutes.

Two Men Dead

In the afternoon, police announced that the two men, in their 30s and 40s, died in connection with the parachuting accident.

According to Anna Oscarson, it is one of the worst incidents she has experienced.

– I have probably never been involved in such a serious accident in the 20 years I have been jumping.

– It's terrible, very tragic. It's very, very sad, and our thoughts are with their families. The whole club is in shock and mourning, so it's very tough.

– It's more to be able to take the investigative measures we need.

The Accident Investigation Authority will also investigate the incident, according to Jennifer Last.
