Landskrona Suspends Vincent Sundberg Following Conviction
Landskrona BoIS player Vincent Sundberg has been suspended from play by his club following his conviction for attempted extortion and drug offenses. The club confirmed this on their website.
On Thursday, several media outlets, including Expressen, reported on an elite player who, despite his denial, was convicted of attempted extortion and drug offenses. The sentence included a conditional sentence, community service, and damages.
The verdict was delivered in May. On Thursday, the club confirmed that the player is suspended from matches and training until further notice. On Friday, the club also released the information on their website.
The player in question, Vincent Sundberg, is part of the Superettan club Landskrona BoIS. Sundberg has played in nine of Landskrona's eleven opening matches in the Superettan. The club is currently fifth in the league.
“Vincent has been convicted of two serious offenses. These actions are incompatible with Landskrona BoIS's values and the conduct requirements for individuals representing the club. Yesterday, we received the information and chose to act immediately. Vincent is suspended from both training and play until further notice. We are gathering all the facts to get as clear a picture as possible and will not comment further until we have more information to share,” the club stated in a statement on their website.
Club's Reaction: “Sad”
Vincent Sundberg, along with another person, attempted to extort 44,000 kronor. They sent two letters to a family with anonymous threats that their son owed money during the winter of 2023.
“Regardless of whether you no longer have contact with your son, which I hope you do, this falls on you, and you must pay my 44,000 kronor. If I don't get my money, I will take action, and you will notice immediately if you don't listen to what I say. There is no other solution than this. Think about yourself and your family when you decide how this should proceed,” one of the letters stated.
From the club's side, club manager Karl-Johan Olsson explains that they are currently focusing on “gathering facts.”
– It is a very sad and unfortunate situation, he told Expressen.
They had no prior knowledge of the verdict or the events.
– The information came from the media yesterday. A very sad surprise. We then brought Vincent in, talked to him, and he expressed himself and explained from his perspective what had happened. We haven't talked to him more than that.
Lawyer's Statement
He does not want to speculate on any further consequences from the club in the future.
– We are currently choosing not to feel or think too much, but rather handle it based on the information we have. We acted immediately, yesterday afternoon, by suspending him from play and training until further notice. I don't want to comment more than that right now, says Olsson.
Sundberg's lawyer, Nicolaus Rubensson, says the verdict will be appealed.
– It has absolutely been a given to appeal from the start, he says.
– For simplicity's sake, one could say that the district court did not take our arguments into account. It has passed them by, and they have judged incorrectly. That is our opinion. We expect a different outcome in the Court of Appeal.
