A moped driver died after colliding with a bus in Gävle. The bus was on its way to be cleaned when the severe accident occurred. "We heard the crash, it was significant," a witness told Arbetarbladet.
The incident happened around 9 PM on Wednesday evening when a bus was to be cleaned in Sörby Urfjäll, Gävle.
"Every evening, the buses are cleaned, and the accident occurred when the driver was turning the bus to drive it into the wash depot," said Åsa Elm, press officer at Transdrev, the bus owner.
It was then that the bus collided with the moped.
The moped driver, a man in his 30s, died in the accident.
Witnesses Heard the Crash
A witness to the accident, who was working on-site, told Arbetarbladet that the accident happened just outside the garage doors, which were open due to the heat.
"We heard the crash, it was significant, and saw parts flying in all directions. We rushed out from the workplace and saw the devastation," the man told the newspaper, adding that he and another person initiated life-saving measures.
Crisis Management in Full Swing
At the company where the bus driver is employed, the atmosphere is one of shock.
"Crisis management is in full swing, and we are currently dealing with the shock among the staff. It is a terrible accident and a horrific event for everyone involved," said a company manager.
The company has launched its own investigation.
To determine how the accident occurred, the police have initiated an investigation into gross negligence in traffic and causing another person's death.
"No one has been notified of suspicion of a crime. There are some uncertainties about how the accident happened. That's what we're looking into now," said Stefan Larsson, police spokesperson, to Gefle Dagblad.
