– There have been some situations in the Baltic region that should not have happened.
The Swedish royal couple is in New York as the UN celebrates its 80th anniversary. On Tuesday, the UN General Assembly begins, and in an interview with Ekot, the King shares his thoughts on the visit. He finds it very exciting to have the opportunity to visit the UN, he says.
The King describes the global situation as "difficult."
– We know it is a difficult global situation. There are many conflicts around the world, and we are all aware of them. But if this organization did not exist, we do not know how the world would look; it might have been even worse, he tells SR.
"Must Not Forget"
Carl XVI Gustaf emphasizes the importance of diplomacy and dialogue.
– There is a forum here, after all. We must not forget what has been achieved over time. A colossal amount has been done.
The King also comments on last week's events in the countries around the Baltic Sea. Last week, Russia violated the airspace of Poland, Romania, and Estonia. Swedish Jas Gripen planes were also deployed to mark presence during the violation against Estonia.
