The alarm about the intense mosque fire was raised at 1:46 AM on Tuesday.
The two-story building is fully engulfed and is expected to be completely destroyed, according to Michael Hesselgård from the rescue services, speaking to TT.
There is a risk of the fire spreading to other buildings in the area.
"We are working on extinguishing the fire, but it will take many more hours, and it has burned through the roof. There is an apartment above, but it is unoccupied. The fire has spread throughout the entire building," Hesselgård told Vimmerby Tidning.
There are no reports of injuries.
A police investigation into suspected arson has been initiated. No arrests have been made.
