Stampen Media Announces Major Job Cuts Amidst Financial Struggles

Stampen Media is set to cut 60 jobs, including vacant and project positions, in a bid to save 45 million SEK annually. This decision follows a previous reduction of 100 positions two years ago. Stampen Media Announces Major Job Cuts Amidst Financial Struggles

Stampen Media is set to cut 60 jobs, including vacant and project positions, in a bid to save 45 million SEK annually. This decision follows a previous reduction of 100 positions two years ago.

– It comes unexpectedly, like a blow, says Gabriella Mohoff, chair of Stampen's journalist club.

In total, about twelve percent of Stampen Media's employees will be affected. The cuts are expected to reduce costs by approximately 45 million SEK per year, according to a press release from Stampen Media.

"There's Always a Risk"

A major reason for the cuts is a tough advertising market, claims Johan Hansson, CEO of Stampen Media. He also states that the company will now review how work within the group should be reorganized.

– There's always a risk that downsizing affects quality, including editorial quality. But clearly, there will be things we need to stop doing and things we will need to do differently, says Johan Hansson.

He expresses understanding if those affected are disappointed.

– It's always very sad to receive such news, says Johan Hansson.

Unexpected According to the Union

According to the union, the announcement comes as somewhat of a shock.

– It comes unexpectedly, like a blow, considering we made a significant downsizing of nearly 100 people two years ago. So it's not very cheerful right now, says Gabriella Mohoff, chair of Stampen's journalist club.

– The difference this time is that they are offering severance packages to everyone, to try to resolve as much as possible voluntarily, says Gabriella Mohoff.

According to information from Expressen, this involves, among others, 16 editorial positions at Göteborgs-Posten, as well as several positions at titles such as Hallandsposten. According to Johan Hansson, no title will be discontinued.

All affected will be offered severance packages.
