Powerful Storm Floris to Hit Sweden: Brace for Strong Winds

The unusually strong storm Floris is set to hit the UK on Monday and will reach Sweden by Tuesday.

– It will be quite windy, says meteorologist Josefine Qvarnesjö-Bergstedt.

Britons are advised to avoid opening doors unnecessarily.

The "unusually strong" storm Floris will hit the northern parts of the UK on Monday.

By Tuesday, it will reach Sweden.

– It looks like it will be quite windy, especially along the West Coast from Strömstad down to Gothenburg, says Josefine Qvarnesjö-Bergstedt from the weather institute Storm.

The storm will weaken as it moves over the British Isles and then Norway. However, it will still be windy. According to Josefine Qvarnesjö-Bergstedt, gusts could reach storm strength, around 20-21 meters per second.

Worst in Norway

It will be particularly windy in western Götaland and Svealand, with significant rainfall expected in the southwestern parts of the country – from Bohuslän and Dalsland to Värmland and Örebro County.

But the worst will be in Norway.

– It looks like Norway will bear the brunt. There, 60-80 millimeters of precipitation is expected, possibly more, which could lead to flooding, says Josefine Qvarnesjö-Bergstedt.

Floris will move over the country on Tuesday night, heading north, and by Wednesday, it will have passed. Only light rain will remain in the north.

SMHI has not issued any warnings yet.
