Massive Fire Engulfs Apartment Building in Hudiksvall – Public Warning Issued

A significant fire is raging in an 80-meter-long multi-family building in Hudiksvall. Due to heavy smoke, a public warning has been issued in the area.

“We are evacuating the entire building and searching apartments for people,” says emergency services commander Jens Hermansson.

The alarm about the fire reached the emergency services around 4 PM on Sunday.

The fire started from oil on a stove on the third floor, according to Hudiksvalls Tidning. It then quickly spread to other apartments and the attic of the building.

The building is 80 meters long with three floors, and large parts of the property are on fire.

“At least the entire top floor is on fire, and it seems to be spreading downwards via balconies. So it's full speed,” says Jens Hermansson, emergency services commander.

Thick Smoke – Residents Advised to Stay Indoors

Due to the fire and the thick smoke spreading from the building, a public warning has been issued in the area. The message advises everyone in the area to go indoors and close doors, windows, and ventilation.

The emergency services are on-site with ten stations, but as of 5:30 PM, they have not yet been able to start extinguishing the fire.

Unclear if Residents Remain in the Building

First, they must ensure that all people from the burning building are out, Jens Hermansson explains.

“We are evacuating the entire building and searching apartments for people.”

There are no reports yet of injured residents in the building. However, a firefighter has been injured during the operation, having inhaled smoke.
