The man from Gothenburg received over half a million kronor from a food company at the end of 2023. The 625,000 kronor came in two installments and ended up in his account by mistake.
In an interrogation, he stated he was "happy" to see so much money in his previously empty account. He quickly spent the money, buying watches and gold jewelry. Two months after the first deposit, the money was gone.
The man claimed he thought the company had transferred the money for a reason and that he must have won a competition.
Convicted of Serious Crime
He has now been convicted in Gothenburg District Court of gross unlawful disposal, with probation as his sentence.
The man from Gothenburg must also pay damages, which is the 625,000 kronor that magically appeared in his account. The damages are also subject to interest.
The money was supposed to go to a consultant for the food company but ended up with the Gothenburg resident due to a clerical error.
