Lawyer Expelled for Sharing Client's Social Media Login Details

A lawyer shared the login details of her client's social media accounts. As a result, she has been expelled from the Swedish Bar Association. However, five members of the association believed the woman should instead receive a warning and a fine of 250,000 SEK, reports Dagens Juridik.

According to the complaint to the disciplinary board, the lawyer shared the login details for her client's Instagram and Facebook accounts, despite the client being under full restrictions. The person she shared the details with was the client's mother, which led to the accounts being deleted, writes Dagens Juridik.

The mother claimed that there were links to the accounts on Flashback, which resulted in the spread of the son's image and the family's name.

Demanding Workload

The lawyer herself admits to sharing the login details but also states that her work was very demanding during this period. This, she says, unfortunately, did not allow her the usual and crucial time for reflection and consideration.

She further explains that the reason the mother requested the details was due to the family's very difficult situation. In hindsight, she understands that her actions have caused the complainant and relatives to react.

Dissenting Members

The disciplinary board of the Bar Association believes that the lawyer's actions have led to consequences in the investigation of a very serious crime. As a result, she is expelled from the Bar Association.

However, five members dissented, believing that the woman should instead receive a warning and a fine of 250,000 SEK. According to them, the woman did not intentionally hinder the investigation.
