Four Hospitalized After Boat Fire Near Orust
Four individuals have been taken to the hospital following a boat fire at Käringön in Orust municipality.
– They inhaled smoke and were transported by ambulance for medical evaluation, says Patrik Karlsson, duty officer at the rescue service.
At around 5:30 AM on Friday morning, an alarm was raised about a fire on a sailboat in the guest harbor at Käringön.
– There are no people left on the boat, and the sea rescue has begun an operation to tow the boat away to reduce the risk of spreading to other boats, said Andreas Elfström, duty officer at the rescue service, initially.
When the rescue service arrived, the fire was extinguished, and the boat was brought to the mainland.
– We have sent in smoke divers and extinguished the fire in the cabin, but the boat is still afloat, says Patrik Karlsson, duty officer.
There were five people on board, four of whom were taken to the hospital for evaluation. The cause of the fire remains unclear.
