Former IDF Spokesperson: Many in Gaza Are Overweight

Swedish-Israeli and former IDF spokesperson Jonathan Conricus dismisses reports of food shortages and starvation in Gaza. "Do you know how many films I've seen of overweight people in Gaza?" he asks on the British program "Piers Morgan Uncensored".

Jonathan Conricus, who moved to Sweden from Jerusalem as a newborn, has served as a spokesperson for the Israeli Defense Forces, IDF. During a debate with pro-Palestinian comedian Bassem Youssef, he refutes claims that Israel uses starvation as a weapon in the conflict:

"Do you know how many films I've seen of overweight people in Gaza? Of overweight Hamas fighters? Of overweight people in Gaza?"

His words lead to a heated exchange in the studio. Youssef dismisses it as nonsense, and even the host, Piers Morgan, seems to find Conricus's statements absurd:

"Come on. Really, Jonathan? Are you saying everyone in Gaza is so overfed that they're overweight?"

UN Raises Alarm

The UN has repeatedly raised alarms about acute food shortages and widespread starvation in Gaza. One of the reasons for the International Criminal Court's arrest warrant against Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was the allegation that Israel uses starvation as a weapon in the conflict. Conricus dismisses this with a question back to the host.

"The only truly thin people in Gaza I've seen, do you know who they were? They were Israeli hostages being starved by Hamas."
