Chania Lundgren Fled to Spain After Brutal Double Murder, Posted on Facebook

A couple was brutally robbed and murdered in their home in January. Three individuals have been convicted for their involvement in the murder. One of them, Chania Lundgren, fled to Spain immediately after and wrote about it on Facebook. "I haven't fled anything," she wrote in a post.

One night in January, Chania Lundgren, 31, and Emanuel Mathisen, 40, broke into a couple's home in their 60s to rob them. Jonathan Johansson-Kangas, 33, accompanied them as reinforcement. He had previously been admitted to psychiatric care, which the duo was aware of.

Johansson-Kangas quickly became aggressive towards the robbery victims. When Lundgren and Mathisen left to withdraw the victims' money, he murdered them by stabbing 74 times with scissors and a knife.

After the murder, Chania Lundgren fled to Spain.

Fled to Spain

According to her own account, she and Emanuel Mathisen went to the two men to confront them about an alleged crime that supposedly occurred 30 years ago. They claimed to have received an apology and money from the men.

She also stated that the trip to Spain was paid for with money from the murder victims. She said she had always wanted to travel there and had dreamed of taking a train through Europe, with a planned detour to Berlin on the way down. Additionally, it was cheaper than a direct flight, she explained during interrogation.

The woman has previously been convicted on several occasions, including imprisonment for robbery after threatening a store employee with a knife at Ica.

Posted About the Murder on Facebook

From Spain, she posted on Facebook claiming she was not hiding but was instead shocked by what happened to the men.

"This is the first investigation I will be 100% honest in. I haven't fled anything. I have nothing to flee from," she wrote in a post from February 2, a few days after the double murder.

In the same post, she also responded to posts on Flashback, claiming she did not know about the murder until it was in the newspaper.

"I haven't been involved in the murder, in any way, neither before, during, nor after. I haven't seen anyone kill anyone because I probably wouldn't have handled it honestly. I definitely wasn't nearby when any murder was committed," she wrote.

She further wrote that "no one knew that some unstable person would freak out."

Sentenced to Prison

On Tuesday, all three were sentenced to prison. Jonathan Johansson-Kangas received a life sentence for the double murder and aggravated robbery. He was not deemed to have any serious mental disorder when he stabbed the couple.

Chania Lundgren and Emanuel Mathisen were both convicted of gross negligence causing another's death and aggravated robbery. They were each sentenced to eight years in prison.

The court emphasized that both were aware that the murderer was mentally unstable.

"For the district court, it is already clear that Emanuel Mathisen and Chania Lundgren, based on what had happened earlier in the evening and in the house, must have been aware of the risk of continued and serious violence. Despite their awareness of the risk, they left him alone in the house with the task of guarding the victims," the verdict states.

Jonathan Johansson-Kangas has admitted to killing the couple. Lundgren and Mathisen have acknowledged parts of the sequence of events but deny the crime.
