Formula 1, dinosaurs, Superman – and Pedro Pascal. These are the highlights of the summer 2025 cinema lineup. The star from 'The Last of Us' takes leading roles in three major films.
'F1 the Movie' (Premiere 25/6).
Brad Pitt stars as an aging race car driver who mentors a promising talent (Damson Idris). The film was shot during real races in recent years in collaboration with Formula 1, which hopes for great marketing for the sport.
'Megan 2.0' (27/6).
The first film about the killer doll became a phenomenon three years ago. In the sequel, the robot is revived to fight a mysterious weapons industry company that has acquired revolutionary AI technology.
'Jurassic World: Rebirth' (2/7).
In the seventh film about dinosaurs, Scarlett Johansson, Mahersala Ali, and Jonathan Bailey are chased by prehistoric monsters when they dare to visit their island on a scientific mission.
'Superman' (11/7).
David Corenswet dons Superman's famous suit as director James Gunn reboots the saga. Rachel Brosnahan plays Lois Lane, and the villainous Lex Luthor is portrayed by Nicholas Hoult.
'I Know What You Did Last Summer' (18/7).
Yes, Jennifer Love Hewitt returns in the sequel to the 1997 horror film, but the focus is on new characters like 'Outer Banks' star Madelyn Cline and Chase Sui Wonders ('The Studio'). A friend in the group is killed, and a stalker haunts the survivors.
'The Fantastic Four: First Steps' (23/7).
The 37th Marvel film is a reboot of 'The Fantastic Four' and tells the story from the beginning in an alternate 1960s with space-age aesthetics. Pedro Pascal and Vanessa Kirby star as the heroes battle the supervillain Galactus.
'The Naked Gun' (1/8).
Known for his action films, Liam Neeson ventures into comedy in a new version of the action-comedy classic about the bumbling cop Frank Drebin. Pamela Anderson plays a supporting role.
'Eddington' (8/8).
Director Ari Aster, known for 'Beau is Afraid' two years ago, brings a neo-western comedy horror satire that garnered significant attention at the Cannes Film Festival. Joaquin Phoenix, Pedro Pascal, and Emma Stone star.
'Materialists' (15/8).
Dakota Johnson plays a professional dating expert who must choose between the perfect – and wealthy – Harry (Pedro Pascal) and her ex John (Chris Evans). Celine Song, who directed the acclaimed romantic drama 'Past Lives', directs.
'Something's Not Right' (29/8).
Martina Haag directs the film adaptation of her own key novel about a painful separation. Alexandra Rapaport plays the adult Petra, and Ella Hammarsten Liedberg portrays her as a teenager when her family falls apart.
