Betting Site's Verdict: The Alaska Summit

On Friday, Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump will meet in Alaska. However, you can already bet on the outcome of the meeting. How long the leaders will shake hands, whether they will hug, and if Trump will speak "disparagingly" about Putin are some of the bets offered by the betting site Polymarket.

"The betting site Polymarket became popular in the U.S. ahead of the 2024 presidential election. Many, including Elon Musk, saw the site as a better version of a poll "because there was money at stake."

Ahead of the crucial meeting between Trump and Putin in Alaska, those interested can bet on several outcomes from the meeting.

Among other things, what Trump will say during the press conference afterward.

That Trump will say Biden's name at least three times, whether he mentions Crimea or talks about hell are some of the betting options.

Will They Hug?

The market says there is an eight percent chance that the two world leaders will hug on Friday.

How long their potential handshake will last is another question, with 4-6 seconds being the favorite with a 27 percent probability.

Even the atmosphere after the meeting has people placing bets. Some of the betting options are whether Trump will call Putin "crazy" (eight percent chance), whether he will praise Putin (84 percent chance), and whether Trump will speak condescendingly about Putin (17 percent chance).

How the Last Meeting Went

Trump and Putin have officially met six times before. The most notable meeting was in Helsinki in 2018.

Then, the presidents met alone, each with their interpreter. They have shaken hands on all previous occasions.

On Friday, according to Putin's advisor Yuri Ushakov, the leaders will first meet privately to discuss "sensitive topics," writes Reuters.

This will be followed by a joint meal with the countries' delegations, followed by a press conference.
