A Fair Day Triumphs in Kalmarsundspokalen with Record Time
The immensely popular local horse rose to the occasion. A Fair Day won the Kalmarsundspokalen with a record-equalling time.
– This feeling is indescribable, says trainer Elisabeth Almheden.
The journey continues for the amateur-trained wonder horse A Fair Day after its fourth-place finish in the Elitloppet nearly a month ago.
The hometown favorite was the top contender to win the classic Kalmarsundspokalen with a first prize of 150,000 kronor, and the horse did not disappoint.
From its inside position behind the car, driver Oscar Ginman floored the gas from the start, managing to hold off all competitors.
Once in the lead, "Affe," as it is often called, proved difficult to beat. Many tried over the final stretch, and even though Örjan Kihlström and Mister Hercules closed in towards the finish, trainer Elisabeth Almheden could breathe a sigh of relief and receive the crowd's cheers at home in Kalmar.
– This feeling is indescribable, there are no words for it. I don't know what to say, it's so wonderful, exclaims Almheden on V75 Direkt while receiving congratulations from the stands.
"It's Huge"
The winning time was a swift 1:09.1, which is a shared track record, and driver Oscar Ginman was very pleased in the winner's circle.
– It's a great joy, we really wanted to win this, so we are incredibly happy. It's wonderful. So many people care, and for us to deliver at home, it's huge.
– I could never have dreamed of this. I'm so happy for the horse and Elisabeth, says Ginman.
