Swedish Bandy Federation Board Resigns Amidst Criticism

The board of the Swedish Bandy Federation has resigned following a storm of criticism over their decision earlier this year to dismiss Secretary General Pär Gustafsson. The board cited deficiencies in financial management, claiming Gustafsson opposed transparency and approved substantial payments to himself. They also accused him of mishandling an agreement regarding a company car.

– He is an incredibly charming man with good leadership qualities, but he lacked the necessary knowledge for the top position, says board chair Ingrid Hedin-Amrén.

Entire Board Resigns: “All or None”

However, the decision was met with widespread criticism. The federation's staff expressed full support for Gustafsson in an open letter, and a board member resigned in protest. According to Bandypuls, the work environment has deteriorated, and sick leave has increased at the office.

At the federation's annual meeting last Saturday, it was the board's turn to step down. The controversy surrounding Pär Gustafsson led a majority of voting members to believe the board needed restructuring, prompting all members to resign.

– It was important for us. It was all or none, says Ingrid Hedin-Amrén.

Dismissed Secretary General: “Very Secure”

Pär Gustafsson previously described his dismissal as a bolt from the blue.

– It was a super shock, indescribable in any other way. Mixed with feelings of sadness, anger, and everything else. It was all a blur, he tells Bandypuls.

He is confident that there were no irregularities regarding the money or the car.

– I lose no sleep over the two official reasons. I feel very secure about them, he says.

– It's possible the other party feels equally secure, but I feel very, very secure in these matters. You never know what will happen.

The parties are currently in a labor dispute that could go all the way to court. A key issue is whether Gustafsson is deemed to have held a sufficiently leading position to be dismissed in the manner the board did.

The board will remain in their positions until new member proposals are presented.
