Viral Tiktok Trend Causes Chaos in Swedish Parking Lots

A Tiktok trend has spread across Sweden, causing problems for several stores in Hudiksvall as shopping carts are left scattered in parking lots.

It was an unusual sight for store manager Helena Elofsson at Stora Coop in Hudiksvall on Thursday morning.

Someone had placed shopping carts all over the parking lot, as first reported by Hudiksvalls Tidning.

– We laughed a little at it, but then it took us an hour and twenty minutes to gather the carts. We also have a sloped parking lot, so the carts can roll away, which can be dangerous and cause accidents, she told Expressen.

A Nationwide Recurrence

The trend has gone viral and spread to parking lots in several parts of the country – including Stockholm, Kalmar, and Uddevalla. In Hudiksvall, it has previously occurred at several other store parking lots – sometimes for several nights in a row.

Ica Maxi in Hudiksvall told Hudiksvalls Tidning that they have been affected two evenings and that it is serious when the carts block the exit.

Partly because emergency vehicles need to get through if an accident occurs, but also because the store's deliveries must get through.

Hoping the Trend Will Fade

At Coop, they hope the trend will eventually die out.

– We want it to stop. I don't think people realize it affects our operations and takes time that we would rather spend on other things, says Helena Elofsson.

She says they have not reported the incident as vandalism or similar. However, if it continues, they may consider locking up the carts – so they are not as openly accessible as they are now.
