An elderly woman in her 80s disappeared from her home in Stavby on Sunday, prompting a large-scale search operation to find her.
The woman left her home in Stavby, Uppsala, at 10:30 AM on Sunday for a walk in the woods but did not return. After being missing for six hours, her family alerted the police, and a major rescue operation has been ongoing since Sunday evening.
She is likely wearing blue jeans, a sweater, a red cap, and green rubber boots. She may also be carrying a mushroom basket and a walking stick, according to the police.
– We are starting from her home with a radius of five kilometers, and it takes time to search through all the terrain, sheds, and other open spaces, says Mikael Hedström, police spokesperson.
Police Appeal for Help: “Check Your Sheds”
The police are searching with dog units and drones in the area, located southwest of Alunda. A helicopter searched from the air on Sunday but had to stop due to poor visibility.
– During the night, we have been driving on the roads in the area and have been out with several patrols. It is a special incident, and we have a command staff in the field, says Mikael Hedström.
There is no indication that a crime is behind the woman's disappearance. On Monday morning, the police requested helicopter search assistance again and urge residents in the area to help in the search.
– We urge nearby residents to check their own homes, basements, sheds, and other places that may have been left unlocked, says Mikael Hedström.
– We are working hard to try to get answers to this. It is also difficult for the relatives not to get any answers and to have their loved one home.
There are reports to the police that the woman may have taken a bus towards Öregrund. Therefore, the police are interested in observations from Stavby and are also interested in tips and observations from Östhammar municipality.
