Unique Transformation: From Church to Dream Home in Skeppshult
In Skeppshult stands a former Missionskyrka, known for its colorful, characteristic windows and the cross on its exterior. However, behind the facade lies something entirely different.
Over 18 years ago, Elisabeth and Michael Forsberg, who enjoy a bit of excitement, decided to take an unconventional step in the housing market.
Apartment? No. House? Not quite.
Instead, they chose to move into an old Missionskyrka in Skeppshult, located in Gislaved Municipality, as reported by SVT.
"The congregation had decided to part with it, and we were asked if we were interested. We didn't take long to say yes," says Michael.
What Changes Did You Make?
"Everything!"
"Initially, there was an apartment upstairs that we rented out. We used the kitchen area for various events, meetings, and parties for a couple of years," Michael explains, continuing:
"One winter evening, while walking outside, we saw through the colorful kitchen windows how inviting it looked inside. So, we decided to move in."
Preserving the Church's Heritage
And so they did.
Together with "a bunch of craftsmen," the couple completely renovated the old church.
Today, there is even a large pool in the garden.
However, several details remain preserved, such as the colorful old windows.
"And the two emblems on the bathroom doors, and the hymn book holder. We also kept an old Bible, which is stored somewhere in a cabinet," says Michael.
And the old cross remains.
"Yes, it's embedded in the wall outside. It's a bit tricky. We've wanted to remove it, but we're unsure. We hoped it would be covered by growth, but it hasn't," says Elisabeth.
So, it's not about being religious?
"No, no, no, it really isn't."
How do others react when they visit your home?
"They are completely taken aback when they enter. The energy here is so special, bright, and beautiful. It's different," says Elisabeth.
The Property's Price
But everything has its end, and now the 280-square-meter home is up for sale. Just as when the couple bought the church, they justify their decision similarly.
"We want to do something new and start somewhere. We love our home, but as long as we stay here, nothing new happens in life. So, we think someone else should live in this beautiful home," says Elisabeth.
"The realtor has set an asking price of 3.2 million. So, if you're interested, just go for it," says Michael.
"Meditate and feel it," says Elisabeth.
