On Wednesday, Donald Trump met with Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, several European leaders, NATO chief Mark Rutte, and EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen. The purpose was to discuss the path to peace in Ukraine.
The digital summit was held in preparation for the crucial meeting between Trump and Russia's President Vladimir Putin on Friday.
After Wednesday's meeting, Donald Trump commented at a press conference on how he thought the meeting went.
– We had a very good conversation [...] I would rate it a 10, you know, very, very friendly, he says.
He further states that it is possible he and Putin may meet more times, even after Friday's meeting in Alaska.
– There is a very good chance that we will have a second meeting that will be more productive than the first, as the first is for me to find out where we are and what we are doing.
Opens for Meeting Between Zelenskyy and Putin
If the meeting goes well, he says there is also a chance that Zelenskyy can meet Putin, together with Trump.
– We will have a quick second meeting between President Putin and President Zelenskyy and myself, if they want me there, says Trump.
During the press conference, the president is asked if Russia would face consequences if they do not agree to work towards a peace agreement with Ukraine.
– Yes, they will, answers Trump, adding:
– There will be very serious consequences.
