Tranquility Shattered: Anders and Lena Found Murdered in Klippan
Anders and Lena Nordahl had sought peace in Klippan. However, during a family gathering in early May, two chairs remained empty—the couple had been murdered just days before in their home. "We cannot understand how someone could take the right to end their peaceful lives," relatives wrote in a memorial published in Helsingborgs Dagblad.
On May 9, a relative visited the couple's home after failing to reach them. Inside, Anders Nordahl, 75, and Lena Nordahl, 70, were found murdered. The circumstances led police to quickly suspect a double murder.
A week later, police arrested a 57-year-old man.
Seeking Peace
Anders Nordahl worked for many years as a driving instructor, where he met his wife, Lena Nordahl. She had retrained as a bus driver after previously working as a fur seamstress.
After retiring, the couple lived in various places in Skåne, including Malmö. When their daughter moved to Klippan, they chose to follow.
"I lived in Malmö, and when we were expecting a child, they moved closer to us. And when we then moved to Klippan, they followed. That's how we ended up there," explains their daughter Petra Lindberg to Ystads Allehanda.
Both Anders and Lena were culturally inclined. Anders spent his retirement acting and took on several extra roles.
Relatives wrote in a memorial, published in Helsingborgs Dagblad, that the couple enjoyed life in Klippan and were involved in SPF, a pensioners' association.
"Several times, Anders and Lena told us they would never move from Klippan because it was so calm and peaceful. On May 4 this year, their view of peaceful Klippan was cruelly disproven," the relatives wrote in the memorial.
Charges Likely This Fall
Prosecutor Kristin Vernet told HD that the couple is believed to have been dead for almost a week before being found. The murder is thought to have occurred on the night between May 3 and 4.
The suspect was caught on surveillance cameras in Klippan on the night of the murder. The 57-year-old man reportedly has no connection to Klippan or the couple he is suspected of murdering.
Kristin Vernet says she will most likely charge the man for the murders later this fall. He has neither admitted nor denied the crimes.
