A 24-year-old woman died in a traffic accident outside Sala.
The small country road is usually quiet, but the scene of the accident bears the marks of the tragedy. Shattered glass litters the ground, and the trees are scarred. A memorial is growing at the site, with a heart carved into a tree trunk and several bouquets left behind. A candle stands at the forefront.
This is where the severe accident occurred on Wednesday evening.
In the car, which for unknown reasons veered off the road, were two women and three men, aged 20–25.
A 24-year-old woman died, and the others sustained minor injuries.
“The Whole Community is Affected”
Throughout the day, the church in Västerfärnebo remains open for those who wish to light a candle. At noon, a special prayer was held for the woman.
– The whole community is affected. I am deeply touched, as is everyone. I find it very tragic, says Björg Sörensen, acting deacon in the Västerfärnebo parish.
She has herself lost a grandchild in a car accident.
– So I have been so close to it myself, and I hope there are people around the relatives who truly take care of them now, she says.
Björg Sörensen will be in the church all day, available for those who wish to talk.
– We must take care of each other, and we do. I will be here for people today.
Pastor Markus Holmberg also emphasizes the importance of keeping the church open during difficult times.
– Going forward, we will see if there are requests to organize some form of memorial service.
