Tove Enblom Shines in Debut as Sweden Triumphs Over Norway
Sweden secured a victory against Norway in their final warm-up match for the European Championship, with Tove Enblom making her debut as goalkeeper.
– My partner was almost more emotional than I was, says the 30-year-old.
Before the match against Norway, Sweden's goalkeeping lineup had a total of 30 international caps, all held by Jennifer Falk.
Both reserve goalkeepers, Tove Enblom, 30, and Emma Holmgren, 28, had been waiting for their national team debuts, which had become a talking point ahead of the European Championship in Switzerland.
– I hope I get the chance, said Enblom before Thursday's warm-up match.
Scolded by the Star
And so it happened. After the victory against Norway, Tove Enblom can now mark her first international match. The goalkeeper stepped in during the second half.
– Playing is something I've waited a long time for. I'm very proud to have played for the national team, and doing it on my home turf is extra fun, says Enblom, who plays for the Oslo club Vålerenga.
Enblom kept a clean sheet and received a scolding from Norwegian star Ada Hegerberg.
– She got a bit angry. I don't know what she said, but she was a bit upset that I kicked the ball out. But I don't think it's anything special, she was just angry in the heat of the moment, says Enblom.
“Applauded and Cheered”
The national team's intended first-choice goalkeeper, Jennifer Falk, was delighted with Enblom's debut.
– Really fun for Tove. She had a good half, so it's great for her. And we celebrated it after the match, she says.
How did you celebrate?
– We applauded and cheered a bit.
The debutant elaborates:
– In the circle on the field, many teammates were happy for me, and there were some hugs with family who were present. It was fun.
How did they react?
– They were proud and happy. My partner was almost more emotional than I was, so it was fun, says Tove Enblom after Sweden's 2-0 victory.
