Tobias Jardeberg Sentenced to 16 Years for Shooting at Police
Tobias Jardeberg, 49, a previously life-sentenced murderer, shot at police officers in March when they attempted to arrest him.
In late March, police went to an address in Åryd, a small community outside Karlshamn, to apprehend Jardeberg, who had changed his last name to Rahmberg. He was wanted for allegedly placing two bombs under a car in Gusselby outside Lindesberg in 2023, reports P4 Blekinge.
Aware of his violent history, the regional task force was called in.
Upon arrival, Jardeberg opened fire on the police, who returned fire. Jardeberg was taken to the hospital for his injuries.
Shot at Five Officers
The district court found Jardeberg guilty of five counts of attempted murder for aiming and shooting at five officers.
He is now sentenced for attempted murder and serious threats against officials. He is also convicted of attempted public destruction and violations of the law on flammable and explosive goods related to the 2023 Gusselby incident. The sentence is 16 years in prison.
Jardeberg committed these crimes while conditionally released from a fixed-term life sentence, with 10 years remaining. The court has now revoked the entire 10-year conditional release, resulting in a total of 26 years in prison.
Previously Sentenced to Life for Brutal Murder
At the turn of the millennium, Jardeberg was sentenced to life for a murder described as an execution. The victim was beaten with a baseball bat and shot eight times before the body was dumped in a mine shaft.
Four years later, Jardeberg escaped from prison. During the high-profile escape, he and a fellow inmate took a prison officer hostage and threatened another with a knife. However, he was recaptured days later in an old school building outside Degerfors.
After 20 years in prison, Tobias Jardeberg was released in 2020 when his sentence was set to a fixed term.
