Teen Rapper Sentenced for Murder After Lyrics Reveal Details of Shooting
A 19-year-old man has been sentenced to six years in prison for a fatal shooting in Eskilstuna in April 2023. Among the evidence were rap lyrics written by the teenager about the murder, naming the victim.
"I just laugh as I stand there watching him die," the man wrote.
The victim, a 26-year-old man, was shot with about 20 bullets from two different weapons near a bike path in the Fröslunda district.
The convicted man was 16 at the time of the incident and has denied the murder.
Evidence against him includes his DNA on one of the murder weapons, his presence near the scene when the shots were fired, and text messages showing he had planned to shoot the 26-year-old for a long time before the murder.
The evidence also includes rap lyrics where the 19-year-old, according to the Eskilstuna District Court, wrote about the shooting. In one of the lyrics, the victim is named, and several details match the murder, including the victim being found shot near a path.
"The court considers it obvious that the text refers to the murder of NN, given that he is named and that this text also refers to details characteristic of the murder," the court wrote in its judgment.
Had the man been 18 at the time of the incident, he would have been sentenced to life imprisonment. Due to his young age at the time of the murder, the sentence is set at six years in prison.
The murder is linked to a gang conflict in Eskilstuna.
