Tareq Taylor Criticizes Swedish Government's Stance on Gaza Conflict

Tareq Taylor believes Ulf Kristersson should be ashamed. On 'Efter fem', he criticizes the government's decision not to label the war in Gaza as genocide.

– It's a shame on this government right now. Ulf Kristersson, if you see me: Shame on you, says the TV chef.

In tonight's 'Efter fem' on TV4, TV chef Tareq Taylor appears to discuss his new book 'Mediterranean Food', but also the situation in Gaza. Taylor, who has roots in Palestine, is strongly critical of the Swedish government's refusal to call Israel's actions genocide.

He shares that during his travels to Israel and the West Bank, he has witnessed the situation firsthand.

– What I grew up with was 'Against apartheid', meaning people's right to self-determination, freedom for all, equal rights for all. And when I first went to Israel, I had to tell myself every day 'You have to reset your mind'. Because what I witnessed there was nothing other than what I thought died with South Africa. Pure and simple apartheid, says Taylor on 'Efter fem'.

– I saw Palestinians living under military rule, without rights, and I saw another people living in the same place with all rights, he continues.

"Shame on This Government"

Tareq Taylor says he is deeply concerned and disappointed with how the Swedish government has handled the situation in Gaza since the war broke out on October 7, 2023. He states that he is not 'anti-Israel', but 'pro-human rights'.

– I think that when we see a genocide being committed before our eyes, as we have seen for a long time, and it has been going on much longer than these two years, then we must be able to call it what it is, says the TV chef.

Tareq Taylor believes that when Olof Palme led Sweden, there was a great human capital and Swedes stood for human rights.

– Today we stand with one of the weakest leaders we have ever had who cannot call out what is actually happening before our eyes. And we also stand with an Ebba Busch who says that Israel is doing the world a favor when every charity and all major researchers in the world agree that Israel is committing genocide. You cannot say that, especially as the Deputy Prime Minister of Sweden.

He continues:

– It's a shame on this government right now. Ulf Kristersson, if you see me: Shame on you.
