Swedish Bodyguard Questions Security Measures After Charlie Kirk's Tragic Death
Swedish bodyguard Peter Nyman, 57, has worked for the late right-wing figure Charlie Kirk on several occasions. Now, he questions how a rooftop shooter could fire at a political target undisturbed once again.
"Where is the drone?" he asks Expressen.
Peter Nyman, originally from Mjölby, has become known as "Donald Trump's Swedish bodyguard." He supports the American president politically and has also worked for the murdered right-wing figure Charlie Kirk on a few occasions.
"He was very articulate and nice to everyone. He treated everyone equally," says bodyguard Peter Nyman, whose security firm handles surveillance for several influential Republican politicians and conservative voices.
Peter Nyman: "There's Someone on the Roof"
On September 10, the Christian right-wing activist Charlie Kirk was shot in the neck during a stage appearance at Utah Valley University. He was 31 years old and leaves behind a wife and two children.
"You wonder, just like I did when Trump was shot in the ear in Pennsylvania last year: Where is the drone?" says Peter Nyman, who is currently working full-time on bodyguard protection for a client he does not wish to name.
"We have a drone with a heat sensor up now so we can see if someone is hiding in the bushes or elsewhere."
Just as Thomas Crooks could get onto a roof, shoot a spectator, and injure Trump, Charlie Kirk's murderer could get onto a roof about 130 meters from the stage and fire a fatal shot.
"If you watch YouTube clips, you can see that there's someone on the roof, but no one reacted to it," says Peter Nyman.
Describes the Atmosphere as Calm
Peter Nyman says he knows too little to comment on the suspected perpetrator Tyler Robinson, 22, but if he is found guilty, Nyman believes the prosecutors will get their way.
"It will be the death penalty. It's almost 100 percent. They have to set a boundary here and say no."
Peter Nyman describes the atmosphere as calm during the events when he handled bodyguard protection for Kirk. The threat level did not stand out in any way against the profile who chose to meet his political opponents in open debates.
"Charlie was interesting. If you look at his debates, he's nice. He delivers facts. You say something, and he says: 'No, but look here and here.' Then it turns out he was right, and as a good loser, you say: 'Okay, I was wrong.'"
