Sweden's Worst McDonald's: Manager Apologizes Amidst Poor Reviews

The McDonald's in Töcksfors, Sweden, has been rated the worst in the country, according to guest reviews on Google.

Guests claim the restaurant is "very dirty," offers "terrible service," and vow never to return.

"I've been there several times and I don't think they've ever gotten an order right," writes one guest.

"The worst McDonald's I've ever visited!" asserts another.

A third guest comments:

"First and last time I visited this McDonald's."

Indeed, the McDonald's in Töcksfors, Årjäng Municipality, has an average rating of 2.3 out of 5 stars from 1,300 reviews on Google—the lowest in the country. Previously, Finspång held the bottom spot, but its rating has risen to 2.7.

Töcksfors now occupies the last place.

"It's not fun to see the restaurant receive low average ratings, especially for the staff who do their best every day to provide guests with a good experience," said Astrit Ala, CEO of Hjelte Restaurant AB, which operates the restaurant, in an interview with the local newspaper NWT.

After the newspaper highlighted the poor ratings, more guests shared their reviews, mostly critical. However, one review stood out: a perfect 5 out of 5, without any objections.

Positive, of course, but the sender?

One of the 12 members of Hjelte Restaurant's management team.

Apology Issued

He states that he wrote the review based on personal visits to the restaurant and wanted to show his support.

No connection to the company was mentioned in the top rating, and the review has now been removed.

"Regardless of my intentions, I realize I was wrong and I apologize for this. It was entirely my own initiative without the company's knowledge, and I understand it was inappropriate," Amir Khodabakhsh told NWT.

NWT previously reported that the Töcksfors restaurant received several remarks during municipal food inspections. For instance, Happy Meal boxes were stored next to the restaurant's trash.

The restaurant plans to take a closer look at the Google ratings and see what can be improved.

"We take all feedback from our guests very seriously and are constantly working to improve the experience at our restaurants," Astrit Ala told NWT.
