SVT's Messiah Hallberg: A Comedic Exploration of Anger and Self-Absorption
Self-absorbed, easily offended, and a very angry man. SVT host Messiah Hallberg reveals his worst traits in 'Sommar i P1'.
In 'Svenska nyheter', comedian Hallberg makes all of Sweden laugh at current events every week. But can he joke about his late father's funeral?
Absolutely, it turns out.
As the son of Nils Hallberg, a nationally known film star who died forgotten, he grapples with memories of his choleric father. Potential material, as traumas can also become gold. Or as Hallberg himself tells his daughter: "all this difference can be used as fuel."
The world seems constantly against Nils Hallberg, and the little boy witnesses his aging father's ongoing breakdowns. He loves and admires his father as much as he fears his unpredictable anger—and his death.
It's tender, loving, somewhat sad, but also—very funny.
Hallberg lists all the traits he inherited from his father Nils and reads them to his wife: self-absorption, sensitivity, martyrdom, fear of others, a sense of alienation, and—unadulterated pure anger.
She is shocked when he only lists negative traits.
He says, "Darling, what do you mean?!"
