Suspect Released After Malmö Sidewalk Collision
A man in his 20s, who was detained after driving onto a sidewalk in Malmö and injuring several people, has been released, police announced on Friday evening.
The man remains suspected of attempted murder or alternatively causing bodily harm, as well as gross negligence in traffic.
– The charges may change, said Göran Holmgren, community police officer in Malmö earlier in the day.
He emphasized that there is still no indication that the act was intentional.
– We are working without any preconceived notions. We will conduct a technical examination of the car. We have received some witness statements and I believe there is a video. No one can say with 100% certainty what happened, and we are still interested in witness accounts.
The incident occurred at a bus stop in central Malmö on Thursday. Four people, several from the same family, were taken to the hospital by ambulance. According to Region Skåne, a girl aged 6–10 has serious injuries, while a two-year-old and two women in their 40s are slightly injured.
– It is miraculous that more people were not injured, or even killed. It is a bus stop with many people that he passed. It is fortunate in the misfortune that more were not injured, says Holmgren.
