Clara Lindblom attempted to influence her landlord during her separation from her partner.

Clara Lindblom (V), a councilor in Stockholm, announced on Wednesday that she is stepping down from her position due to family reasons.

Aftonbladet reports that Lindblom tried to influence her landlord during her separation from her partner.

The newspaper has reviewed email exchanges between Lindblom and the landlord from autumn 2024. According to the newspaper, Lindblom wrote from her work email, suggesting that the landlord might miss out on future land allocation opportunities due to upcoming legislation.

The background was that Lindblom's former partner was to remain in the apartment, prompting the landlord to question whether he met the income requirements, Aftonbladet writes.

"You will need to revise your income requirements if you wish to receive land allocations even after the city council has made its decision," Clara Lindblom wrote in an email, according to the newspaper.

  • "This seems to be an unfortunate mix-up of two different roles," says Birgitta Niklasson, a university lecturer at the University of Gothenburg, to Aftonbladet.

In Her Own Words

According to Lindblom, the email was written after the housing contract dispute was already settled, and it was clear that the landlord could not deny the takeover of the residence.

In a text message to Aftonbladet, she further states that her resignation has nothing to do with the email exchange. She considers the part about the land allocation policy to have been "inappropriately worded."

"My judgment as a politician failed, but in that situation, I was primarily a mother in the midst of the crisis a divorce entails," she writes further.
