Spotify Introduces New Chat Feature to Keep Users Engaged
Spotify's New Move: A Chat Feature
Spotify aims to keep users on the platform even when sharing music tips with each other. The solution? A chat feature, of course.
Soon, those who want to share tips on songs, podcasts, or audiobooks on Spotify will no longer need to leave the platform. In a few weeks, the Swedish streaming giant will launch a chat feature available to all users over 16 years old.
The chat function will be available in the mobile app under the share icon when listening to a song, podcast, or audiobook. Users will receive suggestions on people to chat with based on previous interactions on the platform, such as through Jams or shared playlists.
Everything is Encrypted
The message inbox will be located under the profile picture in the top left corner of the app. In addition to text conversations, the feature will also support emoji reactions. According to Spotify, all messages will be protected with encryption that follows "industry standards." It will also be possible to block users with whom one does not wish to converse.
It is currently unclear if artist accounts will be able to use the feature to communicate with fans.
The rollout of the chat feature will begin in the coming weeks in "selected markets." Whether Sweden is included remains to be seen.
