Spotify Introduces Long-Awaited High-Resolution Audio
Spotify is finally adding a much-anticipated feature that many of its competitors have offered for a long time: high-resolution audio.
Rumors about Spotify's plans to introduce high-resolution audio have circulated for years. Now, it is becoming a reality, as announced in a Spotify press release.
The rollout of what is known as lossless audio is now available to all Premium subscribers in select markets, including Sweden.
"The wait is finally over," writes Spotify's subscription manager Gustav Gyllenhammar.
This feature offers music in up to 24 bit/44.1 kHz quality, putting Spotify on par with many other services in terms of high-resolution audio.
"Lossless will be available on mobile, desktop, and tablet, as well as on devices that support Spotify Connect," Spotify states.
How to Enable
Spotify aims to allow users to decide how they want to listen, offering the ability to customize the quality level for streaming over Wi-Fi, mobile networks, and for downloaded songs. Users can choose between low, normal, high, very high, and lossless quality.
Lossless means larger audio files, which is why Spotify wants to provide users with options.
To enable high-resolution audio in the Spotify app, click on your profile icon in the top left corner, go to settings and media quality, and select the contexts in which lossless should be used.
The rollout may take time to reach all users, as it is happening gradually. Users will receive a notification when lossless becomes available.
