SMHI Expands Heavy Rainfall Warning Again

Rain and thunderstorms are expected to continue. SMHI has now expanded its warning for heavy rainfall over northern Svealand and southern Norrland. Basements and roads may become flooded.

Previously, SMHI warned of heavy showers and thunderstorms in northern Svealand and southern Norrland on Sunday until 7 PM.

The warning has now been extended to include Monday, from 5 AM to 8 PM. It applies to the northern part of Stockholm County, Uppsala County, Västmanland County, the northern part of Örebro County, a large part of Dalarna, southern Gävleborg County, and northern Värmland.

"From Monday morning until the evening, there is a risk of heavy showers that could locally result in large amounts of rain in a short time, potentially leading to flooding," writes SMHI.

Basements and roads may become flooded.

500 Lightning Strikes on Saturday Night

During Saturday night, parts of the country were hit by a major thunderstorm. In Gävleborg County alone, 500 lightning strikes were recorded, causing several fires.

"In Svealand, it is more widespread, with over 3,000 lightning strikes registered," says Linus Karlsson, meteorologist at SMHI.
