SJ Fined Millions for Night Train Failures
SJ is required to pay nearly 1.5 million SEK in fines after failing to provide adequate comfort and punctuality on night trains between Stockholm and Östersund.
The night train line Stockholm-Duved-Östersund was introduced in December 2020. In the first quarter of this year, toilets and/or showers were out of order on 265 occasions, according to a decision from Trafikverket.
The issues with the toilets and showers result in SJ having to pay 1,325,000 SEK.
SJ has also failed to maintain the schedule on the route on several occasions, increasing the total amount. All deficiencies combined mean that the train company must pay 1,433,500 SEK in fines, Trafikverket announces.
Since SJ receives compensation from Trafikverket to operate traffic on the route, the amount is deducted from that compensation.
