Six Men Charged with Serious Hunting Offense in Bear Hunt Incident

Six men, five Norwegians and one Swede, are charged with a serious hunting offense during a bear hunt in Strömsund in October 2023. The men pursued the bear family with several vehicles and also took the skin from the killed bear cub.

"The hunters have intentionally hunted a mother bear and her accompanying cubs together and in consultation. The mother bear was killed, after which the hunt continued for her cubs until one cub was killed," says senior prosecutor Åse Schoultz in a press release from the Prosecutor's Office.

Prosecutors consider the crime to be serious as the hunt was conducted with vehicles in a manner that subjected the animals to "undue suffering."

They also request that the skin of the cub, found at the home of one of the Norwegian hunters, be confiscated.
