
Shooting at Student Celebration in Hässelby: One Injured
A person has been taken to the hospital by ambulance following a shooting in Hässelby, western Stockholm. Reports from the scene indicate that the shooting occurred during a student celebration.
– It's frightening, anyone could accidentally get in the way, says a neighbor.
Shortly before 7 PM on Saturday, police were alerted to a shooting in Hässelby villastad in western Stockholm.
Upon arrival, they found an injured person.
– A person has been shot. The person was taken by ambulance to the hospital and was initially awake and able to speak, but I have no further information on their condition, says Nadya Norton, police spokesperson for the Stockholm region.
According to Aftonbladet, the injuries are serious.
– A manhunt is underway for the perpetrator or perpetrators, says Nadya Norton.
Occurred at a Student Celebration
A neighbor told Expressen that she heard two bangs. She looked at the clock, which read 6:54 PM.
The sound came from a student celebration a short distance away, which had been ongoing since the afternoon.
– There were 40-50 people gathered at a large party tent, with youths of that age, and people who appeared to be parents and older relatives.
After the bangs, the neighbor went down to the scene with her daughter.
– You could immediately tell the tone had changed, so we went down there. It was clear something had happened, so I turned to my daughter and told her to call 112.
– Someone said a guy on a scooter or kickbike had passed by and shot a person.
The witness reports that police, ambulance, and an ambulance helicopter arrived at the scene shortly thereafter.
– They provided medical assistance to the person lying on the ground, who was then taken away by the ambulance helicopter.
The shooting occurring so close to her home was unsettling, she says.
– It's frightening. Anyone could accidentally get in the way, says the neighbor.
Police Interview Witnesses in Hässelby
Police confirm that the incident occurred outdoors, and a crime scene has been cordoned off. They are securing evidence and interviewing witnesses, but Nadya Norton from the police does not want to comment on how many people witnessed the event.
She also does not want to discuss other circumstances surrounding the shooting.
The police have launched a preliminary investigation into attempted murder.
