Severe Winds and Rain Trigger Warnings Across Multiple Counties

Strong winds and rain are expected to cause power outages and flooding in several counties on Thursday evening, according to SMHI.

Thursday evening will be notably windy in several areas, and SMHI has issued multiple yellow warnings. Along the coasts of Sörmland and Stockholm, southeast winds are expected to intensify, with gusts reaching up to 24 meters per second. The winds are expected to subside by night.

Gotland may also face challenges this evening. Around Fårö, the wind could disrupt ferry traffic, with gusts expected to reach similar strengths.

Further north, in Västernorrland, rain remains a concern. On Friday, 20–30 millimeters of rain could fall in areas already saturated with heavy rainfall.

Due to the waterlogged ground, there is a risk of flooding in streams and smaller rivers. Simultaneously, the wind could be strong enough to topple trees.

Västernorrland has been severely affected by the heavy rainfall over the past week.

Lights Out on Gotland – Again

Meanwhile, Gotland has experienced new power outages. Over 1,300 customers were without electricity on Thursday afternoon, according to Helagotland. The largest issues are in Ljugarn, where nearly 1,000 households are in darkness.

This is the third time in a short period that the island has faced significant outages. On the night of September 3, nearly 43,000 customers lost power, and on August 23, the entire island was dark for several hours.
