Severe Weather Alert: Polish Storms Heading Towards Sweden

Poland is on high alert, preparing for an impending storm. In the coming days, the country expects torrential rain, flooding, and power outages to hit with full force. The storm is then projected to move northward, targeting Sweden.

"It looks like there could be heavy showers and rain resembling downpours," says SMHI meteorologist Emma Rosengren.

The next two days in Poland are expected to be very challenging. According to Polish Interior Minister Tomasz Siemoniak, the state is on high alert for the extensive downpours sweeping across the country, reports Polish Onet.

"We have 48 very difficult hours ahead of us," Tomasz Siemoniak said during a press conference on Tuesday.

The large amounts of rain in a short time are feared to lead to severe flooding, power outages, and devastation.

When Sweden Will Be Affected

The storm is expected to eventually move further north, reaching Sweden by the weekend.

"It's a very serious situation over Poland. We won't be affected in quite the same way, but it looks like there could be heavy showers and rain resembling downpours," says SMHI meteorologist Emma Rosengren.

The stormy weather is expected to first hit Gotland on Friday, then move onto the mainland.

Although the forecast is still somewhat unclear, Emma Rosengren estimates that the rainstorm will mainly affect an area from eastern Skåne up along the east coast, past Stockholm and the Roslagen coast.

"There could be a lot of rain in a short time, and possibly even thunderstorms. And it will also be windy," she says.

"Suddenly It Strikes"

Those who are off and planning their weekend should stay updated on warnings and local forecasts, advises Emma Rosengren. The weather can change quickly and dramatically.

"It might seem like nothing is happening, and then suddenly it hits with heavy showers."

She particularly urges those living in houses with basements to be vigilant.

"This is classic weather when basements can flood – when a lot of rain comes in a short time."
