Severe Thunderstorms and Heavy Rainfall Warning Issued by SMHI
SMHI has issued a warning for thunderstorms and torrential rain in southern Sweden. There is a risk of flooding and disruptions in train and air traffic.
The storm is expected to move in on Wednesday evening and into the night towards Thursday. SMHI has issued a yellow warning for thunderstorms and torrential rain in parts of western and northern Götaland and southern Örebro County. Strong wind gusts may also accompany the thunderstorms.
On Wednesday afternoon, weather warnings were extended. A yellow warning for persistent rain has been issued in Dalarna, Hälsingland, and northern Värmland.
Heavy rainfall poses a risk of flooding in basements and on roads, with local areas potentially receiving between 30 and 40 millimeters of rain.
Power and telecommunications networks, as well as train and air traffic, are at risk of being affected by severe lightning strikes, according to SMHI.
Heat Record in Southeastern Götaland
On Tuesday, the warmest day of the year so far was recorded in Sweden, but the heat record could be broken locally today. SMHI warns of high daytime temperatures in southeastern Götaland on Wednesday, where it could reach around 25–32 degrees Celsius.
In other parts of the country, it will be cooler, and the heat is expected to subside by Thursday.
