Severe Thunderstorm Alert Issued for Southern Sweden
If you are in southern Sweden, be cautious of lightning. SMHI has issued a warning for severe thunderstorms expected late Wednesday evening and into the night on Thursday.
SMHI's yellow warning took effect at 10:00 PM on Wednesday. They report that the storm may bring torrential rain, with total rainfall amounts reaching 30 to 40 millimeters.
The warning affects Halland County, Västra Götaland County, the western part of Jönköping County, the western part of Östergötland, and the southern part of Örebro County.
The weather is expected to persist until around 3:00 AM on Thursday.
Until then, the weather may cause flooding and longer travel times.
SMHI also advises people to stay away from tall objects, such as trees and poles, and to skip evening swims.
Overall, they recommend staying indoors as it is dangerous to be outside during intense thunderstorms.
Västtrafik, which manages public transport in Västra Götaland, warns that the weather may cause disruptions on several of their routes.
"Expect delays and canceled departures on certain routes," they state on their website.
