Search Areas Expanded in Hunt for Missing Man Near Kallinge Airport

The man who disappeared outside Kallinge Airport is still missing. Now, the search areas are being expanded.

The man, in his 80s and residing in Tingsryd municipality, has been missing since Tuesday after dropping off a relative at Kallinge Airport.

Since then, no one has seen him.

– Normally, there is a last known location to start from. We don't have that in this case, says Sara Andersson, police spokesperson in the South region.

Call Interrupted – Midway Through Police Contact

The man contacted the police himself on Tuesday, stating he was lost and stuck in some kind of ditch. But midway through the call, his phone stopped working, and he couldn't provide more information.

– He has had the worst luck, Leif Fransson, spokesperson for the South police region, previously told Expressen.

The exact location of his call couldn't be pinpointed due to the few cell towers in the area. It's also possible the man managed to leave the area, prompting an expansion of the search zones.

Now, the search covers an area of five by three miles, according to BLT.

– We are searching all the way down to parts of southern Kalmar, to the coastline. We must consider that he might have gotten the car running and headed that way. All possible scenarios must be considered, says Sara Andersson.

Missing People Called In

It's a large-scale search operation. Helicopters, motorcycles, and police patrols are on the ground. The Home Guard is present, and on Thursday afternoon, Missing People will be involved.

– We have a very large operation underway. We have essentially everyone available involved.

But the vast search area and dense terrain complicate matters. The trees in the forest obscure much of the view from above.

– There are an enormous number of small roads. It's a huge challenge, says Sara Andersson.
