SD Politician Jimmy Forsell Resigns Amid Hells Angels Controversy
Jimmy Forsell, a politician from the Sweden Democrats, was initially defended by his party despite his past involvement with the Hells Angels support group, Red & White Crew, and his continued online support for HA. However, he has now chosen to leave politics.
"After some reflection and careful consideration, I have decided to leave my political assignments," he wrote to Ljusnan.
Last week, Expressen revealed that Jimmy Forsell, an SD member of the social committee in Bollnäs, has a background in the criminal motorcycle club environment.
In the fall of 2020, he was questioned by the police in an investigation concerning serious weapons offenses directed at an acquaintance of his. In the interrogation, Forsell admitted that he, like his acquaintance, had been a member of the Hells Angels support group Red & White Crew:
– I was part of it, but I am no longer. I left it a year and a half ago after being a member for five years.
When Expressen questioned Forsell about his motorcycle gang background, he chose to deny it.
Continued to Support HA
After the revelation, Forsell was defended by the Sweden Democrats. Jonatan Hölzgen, group leader and opposition councilor for SD in Bollnäs, did not see the motorcycle gang connections as disqualifying Forsell from representing the party:
– Jimmy had already left and put this behind him five years before joining the party. We do not see this affecting his work and political assignments today, said Hölzgen to the local newspaper Ljusnan.
However, Forsell had not put it behind him. As recently as the day of Expressen's revelation, Forsell continued to express support for Hells Angels on his Facebook page.
Group Leader Declines to Comment
Now, Jimmy Forsell has chosen to leave his assignments. In a comment to Ljusnan, he writes:
"After some reflection and careful consideration, I have decided to leave my political assignments. I have left this environment and wanted to put it behind me. Given the media attention that has come from my past associations, I do not want it to affect my family, my children, and the party."
Jimmy Forsell writes in a text message to Expressen that he refers to his comment in Ljusnan and to Jonatan Hölzgen. Hölzgen now writes in a text message:
"We have had a good dialogue with Jimmy and have not seen any reason to question the information we have received. Since Jimmy has chosen to leave politics, we see this as resolved, and I have no further comments to make."
Hölzgen has not answered the question of why he claimed that Forsell had put his motorcycle gang connections behind him when his party colleague continued to support Hells Angels.
