SD Politician Daniel Lönn Expelled After Drunken Incident, Retains Salary

Daniel Lönn, a former top member of the Sweden Democrats (SD), was expelled from the party after a video surfaced showing him being escorted out of a nightclub by security and making derogatory remarks about the police. Despite his expulsion, Lönn continues to work for SD in Region Dalarna, earning a monthly salary of 44,300 SEK. The party has remained silent on his continued employment, while another SD member, Rasmus Giertz, faced no action after a separate nightclub incident.

SD Politician Daniel Lönn Expelled After Drunken Incident, Retains Salary

Daniel Lönn, a former top member of the Sweden Democrats (SD), was expelled from the party after Expressen revealed videos showing him being escorted out of a nightclub by security and making derogatory remarks about the police after a night in a drunk tank. Despite this, Lönn still works for SD in Region Dalarna with a monthly salary of 44,300 SEK, and the party remains silent about his employment.

Expressen published a video in early March showing SD's Daniel Lönn being removed by security from a nightclub in Borlänge during the Christmas holidays. In another video, Lönn films himself discussing his time in a police drunk tank:

– "Damn bastards of security guards who throw me into the police car so I have to sit in a drunk tank, it was one of the worst things I've done in my life. Oh damn, it was really bad," Lönn said, continuing:

– "Now I'm almost home, gonna light a spliff (a marijuana cigarette, editor's note) and just piss on the police. Damn."

Expelled After Revelation

The video revelation led to Lönn, then a parliamentary substitute, resigning from all his political positions. The party also announced they had initiated a membership case against him. A month later, SD decided to expel Lönn from the party.

Expressen had already reported that Lönn planned to remain in politics but in a less visible role. One position he wanted to keep was his job as a political secretary for the party in Region Dalarna.

In this role, he works for former MP Kent Ekeroth, who is an opposition councilor for SD in the region.

The region now confirms to Expressen that Lönn is still employed, with a monthly salary of 44,300 SEK.

There are no obstacles to dismissing Lönn. His position is not covered by employment protection laws, and the region states that the Sweden Democrats can terminate his employment without specific reasons. Lönn would then have a one-month notice period.

SD Remains Silent

Expressen asked the Sweden Democrats how they view the expelled member Daniel Lönn continuing to work for the party in Region Dalarna. The party's press department replied:

"We do not comment on employment, especially not those that regions are responsible for. We therefore refer to Region Dalarna, which this concerns."

Expressen has also sought Kent Ekeroth and Daniel Lönn. Neither has responded to the questions.

The drunken revelation about Daniel Lönn was not the only issue concerning SD leaders in Dalarna during the first half of the year.

MP Shouted "Bitch" at Nightclub

In June, Expressen published mobile videos showing MP Rasmus Giertz physically attacking a man while shouting "bitch" at a nightclub in Borlänge in December 2022. When Giertz was later questioned by the police, he lied about the incident.

Unlike the case with Daniel Lönn, the party chose not to act against Rasmus Giertz, who is a regular MP. Instead, SD's press chief Oskar Cavalli-Björkman considered it "unserious" of Expressen to question Giertz in parliament about his actions.

When Jimmie Åkesson was asked during the summer's political week in Almedalen about Giertz's actions at the nightclub and the fact that the SD member lied about the incident in police questioning, the SD leader replied that he was not informed and that it was not his matter to handle.
