SD Politician Caught in Nightclub Altercation: Allegations and Denials
Rasmus Giertz, a member of the Swedish Parliament from the Sweden Democrats, was involved in a physical altercation at a nightclub in Borlänge, where he allegedly shouted offensive language. Despite video evidence, Giertz denies any wrongdoing, claiming it was a misunderstanding among friends.
In March, SD politician Daniel Lönn resigned from his political duties after being confronted with videos showing him being escorted out of a nightclub and discussing his time in a police cell. Giertz, who has long supported Lönn despite his repeated scandals, was present during the incident.
Defending Lönn
Giertz defended Lönn when he was detained under the law for intoxicated individuals in December 2022, stating, "I did not perceive Daniel as being under the influence at all," to Falu-Kuriren.
Giertz was with Lönn at the nightclub Lips in central Borlänge, where the evening quickly turned controversial as Giertz got into a street fight outside the club. He was reported for assault that night and later filed a counter-report claiming he was assaulted.
The investigation was closed after four months due to lack of evidence. Witnesses claimed that other guests filmed Giertz and his friends, who allegedly behaved provocatively and aggressively. Giertz claimed the group called them derogatory names, but no independent witnesses or evidence supported this.
"Very Provocative and Aggressive"
Other guests explained that filming Giertz was a way to deter his behavior. Expressen reviewed mobile footage showing Giertz approaching a man in the cloakroom, pushing him while shouting an offensive term.
In police questioning, Giertz denied any physical altercation, claiming he and the man were joking. However, video evidence suggests otherwise.
Giertz in Interrogation: "I'm Not a Heavy Drinker"
Giertz claimed he wasn't heavily intoxicated, estimating he drank about one and a half beers. However, footage shows him struggling to focus and being led out by a bouncer. After being removed from the club, a street fight ensued, and Lönn was taken to a police cell.
Expressen confronted Giertz with the footage, leading him to change his story, suggesting it was a joke among friends. Despite being a parliament member, Giertz admitted the language used was inappropriate.
Giertz Leaves Interview
When questioned about his intoxication, Giertz left the interview, insisting he wasn't drunk. His acquaintance, who was pushed and called an offensive term, also denied any altercation, attributing it to the nightclub environment.
