School Employee Charged with Multiple Child Sex Offenses
A man in his 60s is charged with several sexual offenses against 15 young girls in primary school age. Several of the alleged crimes are suspected to have been committed at a school in Uppsala where the man worked.
- The oldest girl was ten years old at the time of the crimes, the youngest was eight, says prosecutor Erik Grönvall.
The suspicions arose when some of the girls told school staff and their parents about their experiences. The man has been in custody since mid-May.
- Most of them have been subjected several times during the period, from 2023. He has touched them, caressed them, touched them under their clothes, and so on, predominantly, says Erik Grönvall.
In addition to the physical assaults, the man also took pictures of the girls, often when they were changing in the locker room.
All 15 girls who are plaintiffs were in primary school age when the crimes are suspected to have been committed. The youngest was eight years old and the oldest was ten years old.
The man is charged with gross sexual abuse of children, several counts of gross sexual molestation of children, several counts of sexual molestation of children, and molestation as well as child pornography offenses.
More Victims at Other Schools
Erik Grönvall assesses the evidence as strong.
- The material consists, among other things, of the girls' consistent stories about what happened to them and what they saw other girls being subjected to, and technical evidence in the form of pictures and films on the accused's electronic devices, he says.
According to SVT Uppsala, the man has worked at various schools in Uppsala for several decades. During the investigation, images of a sexual nature were also found of children from another school, but several of these crimes have already been statute-barred.
- The suspicions we have, even those that have been statute-barred, have concerned his last two workplaces, so to speak, says Grönvall.
The man is not believed to have worked as a teacher but in another type of resource role at the schools.
SVT reports that the man has denied the charges throughout the investigation.
