Germany plans to upgrade its Eurofighter fleet, and Swedish company Saab is close to securing a multi-billion euro order for the necessary equipment.
Germany intends to award Saab and American company Northrop Grumman a contract worth 1.2 billion euros (13.3 billion SEK) to upgrade its Eurofighter fleet with equipment needed to deploy advanced missiles capable of detecting and destroying ground-based air defense systems.
According to insiders, the contract could also pave the way for collaboration between Germany and Sweden on the development of next-generation fighter jets, which are needed to replace the Eurofighter fleet in the 2040s, reports Bloomberg.
The Eurofighter upgrade agreement will also be discussed when Sweden's Defense Minister Pål Jonson meets his German counterpart Boris Pistorius in Berlin on Tuesday.
